Time to trot on. SIgn up for lessons.

Our Lessons

We advise that riders sign up for a lesson that best suits their ability. Moving up to the next level before you’re ready can be unsafe for you and other riders as the horses assigned to each level are more challenging as you move up. Please be considerate and honest to avoid other riders being held back and accidents occurring. At sign-ups throughout the year, you should ask Busby and your instructors before signing up for the level above of lessons to make sure you will be ready! If you sign up for a level that the instructors feel isn’t correct for you, you will be moved.

level 1

For riders with no riding experience, these lessons will teach you the basics of horse riding and aim to get you more confident on and around horses. You will learn how to stop and steer the horse, as well as how to use aids and rising trot.

You do not need to have ridden before to join this lesson! If you rode beginner lessons before, but haven’t ridden in a while, this is always a safe option!

level 2

For riders who have already ridden at least 10 lessons, or have basic skills. You should be able to walk and trot by yourself, including being able to steer yourself around the arena. In these lessons you will be learning or improving in canter, but you do not need to be able to canter to sign up.

If you have just started canter this lesson will keep improving your canter.

level3

For riders who can ride around the arena by themselves in walk, trot and canter confidently. You must be able to steer by yourself and have control of the horse. This lesson will start pole work and more independent riding. You must be able to ride canter before joining this lesson. If you have less than a years riding experience please choose a level 2 lesson and you can always move up if your instructor says!

level 4

When you are confident in cantering laps of the arena and are able to ride some basic pole work and movements around the school, you will begin jumping at this level. It aims to increase your confidence and balance over small fences, and riding more challenging movements in trot and canter.

If you haven’t jumped in a while or have never jumped more than 60cm (2ft) we recommend this lesson.

level 5

For riders who have been riding for some time and are confident with riding a variety of horses in all paces and jumping 70-80cm. You will learn how to ask more from your horse on the flat, and progress to jumping bigger fences and more complex exercises.

If you have previously jumped higher than this but not in a while, or only on your own horses, it may be better to go for a level 4 lesson! We will be offering one advanced lesson this year which is flat work only for those not wanting to jump, but wanting a more advanced lesson.

Lesson Blocks

Riders sign up for a lesson level, day and time that suits them, and attend this for 10 weeks. We have sign ups at the start of each semester. If you miss sign ups don’t worry, you can email us to see if we have space in lessons! gurc-horseriding@hotmail.com

Sign-Ups

Lesson sign-ups are done in person a week or two before a block begins, location will be posted on Facebook and Instagram. Lesson spaces are secured with a deposit, which is the cost of one lesson (£). You will need to bring this in cash or bring a suitable card to the sign ups. If we can’t take a deposit, you will not have a lesson time given to you.

Payment

Blocks are paid for at Busby Equitation Centre on the day of your first lesson, and must be done before you can ride. The cost of the block is £ which will be split into 2 payments in week 1 and week 6. Your deposit is taken off of the payment in week 1 so you should expect to pay £. The week 6 payment will be £. You can pay with cash or card.

How to Get there

Travel information can be found Here.

Cancellation

24 hours notice must be given to the stables if you cannot make your lesson. You will need to email Busby at busbyequitationcentre@gmail.com

If not, you will not be refunded for the cost of this lesson. This is to ensure the lesson is not held up waiting for a rider, and that horses are not ready and waiting for no reason. Refunds are done at the end of each semester.

There is a maximum of 2 refunds per semester, but if you are aware in advance of any lessons you will miss, you can tell Busby before you pay.
